Book week is coming!!!

It is not long now until Book Week. The theme for this year is "Find your treasure"
Students will engage in Book Week activities throughout the week with a Book Character Parade being held during the whole school assembly on Friday 24 August.
Students in all year groups are invitedto dress as their favourite book character.
We will also be holding a special Book Fair during Book Week. There will be a special shopping night for parents/carers on Wednesday 22 August from 4-6:30pm. Payments for books can be made by cash or credit card.
  

Because of her, we can! (NAIDOC week)

In the first week of term 3 we celebrated NAIDOC week. Students engaged in a range of activities across the school reflecting on the theme 'Because of Her, We can.' Students created posters with information and images of Indigenous women who have made a difference. These are now proudly on display in the Inspire centre. Please come and have a look when you are visiting the school.

 

Makerspace

STEM in the Inspire Centre

This week in the Makerspace students were given the challenge to create a tower or scuplture using only marshmallows and spaghetti. Although it was very tempting, the students showed great restraint by not eating the marshmallows. Their creations were spectacular and showed creativity and engineering skills.

 

New addition to the Inspire Centre

We have a new visitor who has taken up a spot in the library. Scooby Doo has come to join the collection of book buddies we have in the library. The book buddies are soft toys that students are able to use when in the Inspire centre. They can read to them, and use them for role play. Scooby Doo is currently on display with the Scooby Doo books we have available for loan.

STEM art using 3D pens
Some senior students have been working with Mr Hughes-Brown on a STEM project using 3D pens. They created this amazing frog sculpture which they have kindly loaned to the Inspire Centre. It is on display in the glass cabinets in the foyer of the Inspire centre. Come and check it out.

If you are interested in frogs, you might want to check out this project from the Australian Museum in Sydney. They are collecting frog calls to map the location of different species of frogs across Australia.

Come and visit the Inspire centre to see the FABULOUS artwork that is on display in the foyer. The students of Diamond Gallery created this amazing image and are sharing it with the whole school by displaying it in the library.

Teachers from P-6 read the book of the week to students for Reconciliation week. It is a fun story about Yarrikipayi the crocodile who wants to eat the other animals. They all reply "No Way Yarrikipayi...You're not eating me today." The story has a twist at the end with Yarrikipayi being eaten by a snake who is also hungry. 

NATIONAL RECONCILIATION WEEK 2018

This week is National Reconciliation Week. In our library sessions we will be reading the book 'No way Yirrikipayi!" by children from Milikapiti School, Melville Island with Alison Lester. I had the privelege of hearing Alison Lester read this book at the National Library in 2017 and she signed a copy of the book for our school.
