​What’s On at Libraries ACT: June 1-15

Have you been to a learning program at your local public library? You’ll find regular programs and special events covering a range of subjects and different ages. Scholastic Book Fair

The trolleys of books have arrived along with the boxes of posters, pencils and other fun items. Due to NAPLAN this week we postponed the preview of the book fair until next week. The book fair will now run from Monday 15 May until Friday 26 May. Students can make their wish lists during their class library times next week. Purchases can be made between 8:30-9:00am and 3:00-4:00pm using cash or credit cards.

 The "Read aloud more in May" colouring competition began last week and some students have already dropped off their entries. Students have until the end of May to complete their entry. This competition has also been extended to years 9-10. Collect an entry form from the Inspire centre and be creative. There are prizes in the following year groups. P-2, 3-6, 7-8 and 9-10.

Term 2

Welcome back from your Easter break. The Inspire centre offices had new carpet laid over the break to match the new carpet in the rest of the library. Many classes have visited over the past couple of days to borrow books for themselves and their classrooms. We have some exciting events happening this term. In May we will be having our Scholastic Book fair which has a pirate theme.Look out for more information in the coming weeks.

At the end of May will be the Simultaneous storytime event. The book for this year is "The cow tripped over the moon"

May is Scholastic National Family Reading Month. The focus this year is on families reading aloud together. Research shows that regular reading aloud with family members is a powerful predictor that children will become frequent readers, and that kids love it.

New books

We have some new books in the Inspire centre ready for borrowing at the beginning of term 2. These are pictured below. We also have a newspaper created by one of the classes.


In term 2 we will be hosting our Book fair. The theme is: Bookaneer - where books are the treasure!
We will have one week for students to preview the books and write a wish list. The second week will be for purchasing items from the book fair. The dates of the fair will be advertised early in term 2.

In the first week back at school for term 2 we will be commemorating ANZAC day. The Maritime museum display will remain in the community room until the end of week 2 so there will be more opportunities for you to visit.

War at Sea: The Navy in WW1

The Maritime Museum travelling display was launched on Tuesday 28 March. We were priveleged to have visitors from the RSL, Education Directorate and Defence. The display will be open until the end of week 2 Term 2 so that all students at Amaroo school have the opportunity to visit. Next week students in years K-6 will visit during their Library time and complete a passport activity as they engage with the display.

This week in the Makerspace!

 

In the Makerspace this week there is some lego and a brand new book. The book is called 365 things to do with Lego bricks. Students were busy during B1 today making some interesting creations.

 

Years 3-6 Book Club

Each Thursday during B1 20-30 students in years 3-6 attend a book club in the Inspire centre.

Some of the activities we have engaged in are;

* creating membership cards

* sharing our favourite books and authors

* viewing brand new books

* creating book review posters to inform other students of great books they can read
