Guess what's coming in 2018....... This book is the sequel to 'Mr Bambuckles Remarkables' by Australian author Tim Harris. The first book has not stayed on our library shelves since it arrived. It is very popular.

The last Scholastic Book Club for 2017 is out now. Get your orders in quick.

The library staff will be sending overdue notices out in Week 8. There will be no borrowing of books in Weeks 9 and 10 so that we can do a stocktake and prepare for 2018.

We are looking forward to another very exciting year in the Inspire centre.

Inspire@Amaroo
This term has been an exciting one so far. Year 1 classes have been enjoying their sessions with Mrs Otten learning how to log on to the computer and create a google document. Year 1 and Year 2 classes have been learning to use the green screen and create their own videos.
Kindergarten have been working with Mrs Otten on some STEM activities using their understanding of Design, Make and Appraise.
There are still 5 and a half weeks left of the year and lots more exciting things for the Inspire centre.

There is a poster in the Inspire centre with pictures of teachers hiding behind books. Teachers read too. Can you guess who?

Strawbees - Mrs Otten has been introducing classes to these amazing strawbees. You can create anything you like. 3D shapes, fidget spinners. Lots of different things.

What's on the Library

What an exciting term we are having so far. 2 Kindergarten classes have been visiting each Monday morning to work with Mrs Otten. They are engaging in STEM activities (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) linked to their Science and Technology units. They have been having fun designing and making objects with the new Strawbees in the Makerspace.
The green screen in the ideas lab has also been very busy. Students from across the school have been making videos using the green screen to present their work.
Last week we welcomed Grandfriends into the library for morning tea and to read books. It was a fun morning and great to see so many families reading together.
A highlight of this term so far has been the visit of Russ the Bus to the Preschool. Children's book author Cheryl Orsini read us one of her stories and talked to us about her books.

  

Dr Seuss in the Inspire Centre

The Inspire centre has a new display highlighting books by Dr. Seuss. Students from 4CMA and 4AAJ created some art depicting The Lorax. Students from across the school have enjoyed looking at the display which includes some Truffula trees. Students can borrow any of the books on display.

 Russ the bus will be visiting the Preschool on Wednesday 18 October. Students will have the opportunity to browse at the books, listen to an illustrator and choose a book to take home.

Our senior art students have been busy creating sculptures as a class project. They spoke with Mrs Otten at the beginning of the term to ask if they could have them on display in the library. Today they delivered their finished projects and placed them in their display locations. It has been wonderful seeing students from across the school enjoying the sculptures as they use the Inspire centre. The most common question has been "How did they make them?" Parents/carers and community members are invited to visit the Inspire centre to see the amazing displays of student work.

 

 

Indigenous Literacy Foundation Book Launch

Mrs Otten was invited to attend the Indigenous Literacy Foundation book launch at the National Library this morning to represent Amaroo school. Children's book author Alison Lester was present at the launch of the Yakanarra Song book- a collection of 14 culturally significant songs written by members of the community in Walmajarri. Alison Lester signed copies of two of her books for Amaroo school students and congratulated us on our participation in The Great Book Swap for Indigenous Literacy Day. The children and elders from Walmajarri sang 3 of their songs and Alison Lester read 2 stories for us.

This coming week we will be holding 'The Great Book Swap' to raise money for Indigneous Literacy Day. Students have already begun to bring in books that will be on the tables in the Community room for the swap. On Thursday 7 September students can bring a gold coin donation and swap their book with another book on the table. In preparation for this special event we have created a display in the library highlighting some of the fantastic Indigenous books we have available for borrowing. 

Last week we celebrated Book Week and students across the school created artwork inspired by the shortlisted books. Some examples of this student work is now on display in the Inspire centre. There is also a display of student dioramas from Science week in the foyer of the Inspire centre. We love to have parents/carers visit so please drop in to say hello and view this fabulous work.
