This coming week we will be holding 'The Great Book Swap' to raise money for Indigneous Literacy Day. Students have already begun to bring in books that will be on the tables in the Community room for the swap. On Thursday 7 September students can bring a gold coin donation and swap their book with another book on the table. In preparation for this special event we have created a display in the library highlighting some of the fantastic Indigenous books we have available for borrowing.

Last week we celebrated Book Week and students across the school created artwork inspired by the shortlisted books. Some examples of this student work is now on display in the Inspire centre. There is also a display of student dioramas from Science week in the foyer of the Inspire centre. We love to have parents/carers visit so please drop in to say hello and view this fabulous work.

Book Week 2017
What a wonderful week it was in the Inspire centre this week. There were lots of different activities for students and families to engage in. Our book display in the library helped us "Escape to everywhere." Year 3 classes had a visit from Mrs Otten to 'A bad case of stripes.' They created artwork to show what they have a bad case of. Year 1 students visited the Inspire centre and listened to Mrs Otten read 'Chip.' They created artwork of Chip in disguise. 3 classes from the Amaroo day care centre visited Amaroo school to listen to Mrs Otten read 'The Snow Wombat.' They created a winter hat using cardboard and cotton balls. Mrs Otten also visited the Diamond Terrace dressed as a butterfly to read 'The very hungry caterpillar' to students.
On Wednesday night we held a special Family reading night. We got a 'taste' of some new books and listened to Ms Bailetti and Mrs Otten read stories.
On Friday we enjoyed a special Book Week assembly which featured a message from author Tim Harris. Students from the book club read us a story and we presented the Family reading night prizes. Congratulations to the winners. A huge thank you to Book Face in Gungahlin for donating a book voucher as 1st prize.
What a wonderful week.

National Science week in the Inspire@Amaroo centre

To celebrate National Science Week we have created a special display in the library. Students have been busy watching the egg shell disappear and using a magnifying glass to look closely at the patterns on the shells.
There are worms hiding in the dirt and animal puppets to play with.
Students have also been searching for the hidden science objects in the 'Find it'

What's happening in the Inspire@Amaroo centre

What's happening in the Inspire centre?
One of the shortlisted books for this year's Children's book awards is "The Snow wombat". We have our very own snow wombat on display in the library. Come and visit to preview the book and say hi to the wombat.  Another new addition to the Inspire centre are the 'book buddies'. These are a collection of soft toys for students to cuddle or read to. This week in the Makerspace we created straw rockets. We used 2 different sized straws to construct the rocket . We blew on the bottom of the small straw to make it launch.
